The Russian Foreign Ministry is seriously concerned about the escalation the situation in the Gaza Strip and calls on all parties to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to return to the ceasefire, the statement said the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharova. On August 5, Israel launched air strikes on Gaza, after which retaliatory shelling began from there.
“We call on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, prevent the escalation of hostilities and immediately return to a sustainable ceasefire,” The statement reads.
An end to violence is possible only through negotiations, as a result of which the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state within the borders of 1967 should be realized, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
